Hi, I'm Amit. I started Bura Studio in 2026.

After nearly 10 years working on residential and listed projects at well-established firms, I wanted to use my architectural skills to build something more accessible to homeowners and small businesses.

There's growing talk about retrofitting homes and the drive for clean energy, but it's not always clear what retrofit actually means. I wanted to demystify it.

People talk about retrofitting homes, but at heart it's a building project — one that needs the eye of a trained architect. A retrofit measure can range from a simple window replacement to a full home extension that meets the owners’ changing needs.

Rather than a standard bolt-on upgrade, a good retrofit looks at context, climate, occupants, and the whole house as a system tuned to work efficiently — not individual parts bolted on separately.

That's why I started Bura Studio. The best home refurbishments are guided by evidence, not assumptions. We combine building performance data with thoughtful architectural design to help you create a home that's beautiful, comfortable, low-energy, and built to last.

How we work

Every project starts with a proper conversation, on-site if possible, about what you actually want, not just what you think you're allowed to ask for. From there, expect sketches you can picture your home in, honest planning advice before you fall for a design that won't get approved, and one point of contact throughout, not three people to manage.

A bit of honesty

We take the work seriously — PI insured, ARB and RIBA registered, PAS 2035 accredited, all the boxes properly ticked. We don't take ourselves too seriously.

If you want a firm that talks in jargon and keeps you at arm's length, we're probably not the firm for you. If you want someone who'll tell you straight whether your idea will get planning permission — and actually enjoys the awkward sites — get in touch.
